1. Overview
AutoConverter (“the extension”, “we”, “us”) is a free Chrome extension that lets you convert downloaded files — such as PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and common image formats — into the format you need. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed, how it is handled, and the choices you have.
The short version: AutoConverter does not collect personal information. It has no accounts, no advertising, no tracking, and no analytics. The only data involved is the file you choose to convert, which is processed only for the purpose of that conversion and then discarded. Image conversions happen entirely on your own device.
2. Data We Process
We do not collect, sell, or share any personal information about you. The table below describes everything that is processed:

3. Document Conversions and Third-Party Processing
To convert documents such as PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, the extension sends the file to a conversion API hosted on Render.com (the “service provider”). This is required because document conversion cannot be performed reliably inside a browser.
- Transmission is encrypted using HTTPS (TLS).
- The file is processed in a temporary, isolated working directory that is created for the request and automatically deleted when the request finishes — whether it succeeds or fails.
- We do not read, inspect, analyze, or share the contents of your files for any purpose other than performing the conversion you requested.
- Files are not written to any permanent storage, database, or external bucket.
- The service provider’s hosting is covered by its own terms and processing standards (see Render.com’s Privacy Policy).
4. Image Conversions Are 100% Local
Image-to-image conversions (for example PNG to JPG, WEBP to PNG, GIF to PNG) are performed locally on your device using the browser’s Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded, transmitted, or processed by any server.
5. Permissions We Use and Why

6. What We Do NOT Do
- We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, or any other personal identifier.
- We do not use cookies, web beacons, or fingerprinting.
- We do not serve advertising and do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking.
- We do not sell or rent any data to third parties.
- We do not read or store the contents of files beyond the moment of conversion.
- We do not require an account or login to use the extension.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Because we do not store personal data or file contents, there is nothing for us to retain. Conversion files exist only in temporary server memory and disk space for the duration of the conversion request and are automatically deleted immediately afterward. Local preferences remain on your device only for as long as the extension is installed; you can remove them at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing its data in Chrome’s extension settings.
8. Security
All document conversions are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to the conversion service is protected by rate limiting to prevent abuse. Files are processed in isolated temporary directories and are not retained. Because we collect no personal data, there is no personal data that could be compromised.
9. Children’s Privacy
The extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
10. Your Choices and Control
- Choose before converting: Conversions always require your explicit action — nothing is processed automatically.
- Remove stored preferences: Uninstall the extension or clear its data via chrome://extensions → AutoConverter → Details → “Remove”, or clear site/extension data in Chrome settings.
- Stop using the extension: Uninstall it from chrome://extensions. All locally stored preferences are removed with it.
11. International Data Transfers
The conversion API is hosted by Render.com, which may operate servers in various regions. Because files are transmitted only for the duration of a conversion and are immediately deleted, and because no personal data is collected, no meaningful personal data transfers occur. We rely on standard safeguards where applicable.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the extension or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
